Continuing with the how friendly and helpful the people of Puisseguin were, when in the Pharmacy, one of the staff remembered me from the previous day. She asked if I had seen the Moulins.

I was only catching everyother word but I did hear moulins, and from my experience in France so far, these were the mills that were built over the streams to grind grain for flour.

She said follow me, and Mike and I jumped in our car and down the road we went. At point point she stopped. Her arm came out the window and she pointed off the left.

Moulins de Calon - MontagneWe saw a farm, and drove in, and it was not until outside the car, and looking around the bar that the Moulins de Calon were visible.

The young man who came out of the house was friendly. He asked if we wanted to take some pictures and then pointed the way. No get off my property. No gruff questions.

Following his directions we drove through his farm, down his road and then ended up at the moulins.

The windmills started appearing in the area in the early 17th Century. It was under the reign of Henry IV when many Dutch were attracted to the area by the wine trade.
