Revisiting favorite places: Amalfi, Umbria, Liquire, Roma

Our Italy 2007 trip is one to revist some of our favorite places. To those who would ask: Haven't you been there? The answer is yes, but when returning, it allows the freedom to just enjoy the location. No need to see seven or eight specific sites. Just get up in the morning. Enjoy time at a café and then a relaxing day walking around taking in the sights and the feel of the location.

  • Amalfi Coast
We were based just outside of Amalfi and spent time seeing Amalfi, Ravello, Positano and Sorrento.
  • Umbria
This was a specific return to Orvieto to visit our friends and their new venture, Champagneria in Orvieto. Orvieto is a good base to tour Umbria and Tuscany.
  • Bologna
is a beautiful city, with great food and a return was in order. This year a tour of the Omas pen factory was one of the highlights.
  • Alassio
Alassio, a seafront town with a good Italian feel and a visit to the Grotte di Toirana
  • Langhe
This is the wine area for Italy and we stayed in the small town of La Morra, visiting Barolow, Bra and wine cellars.
  • Firenze
be prepared to put up with the large number of tourists and enjoy this exceptional city.
  • Roma
always a pleasure, the new Museo of Ara Pacis is beautiful and the tribute to Valentino was much more interest than I had expected. We will be updating our Travel Journal with our experiences. As well there will be updates and new notes for the Great Places to Stay site.
